Mai is a character in the Kara no Kioku manga, she works in the "Agents", monitoring Zingai's activities, she is the boss of Tobi Otogiri and Monika Asahi.
Personality[]
She’s positive and energetic, and is shown to be relatively playful. She doesn’t shy away even towards people she has not met before despite being described as an ‘infamous shut-in’ by Tobi. Mai is also reliable, since she’s a supervisor in the organization she works in. She’s also implied to be smarter than she likes to let on, as her main field of work is research alongside being able to supervise roles in combat, intelligence, and information. She can be serious if she has to, not hasting in warning Tobi about how corroding his shadow in a fight with Yuu outside a barrier was reckless and could warrant him punishment due to ignoring the regulation. She does take her work seriously, and she just happens to be a bit cheeky.
Appearance[]
Mai is a girl of average height, having a fair complexion and young appearance. She has a mole near the bottom-left side of her mouth, and has two convex-shaped crescents on both sides of her head. She has cyan-colored hair, sharing the same color with her eyes. Her hair is slightly unkempt, having a tomboyish side-tail haircut where the elongated parts are on the back (Traditionally, the long parts are in front). Her fringes are swept to the middle of her forehead, the sides of her face framed with hair that stops near her mouth. Her eyebrows are notably thicker than most, and are in the same color of her hair and eyes. Her typical outfit in the first few chapters are a long-sleeved black jumpsuit, paired with black shorts and black stockings.
Plot[]
She plays as a major support role within the current narrative, introduced as someone who manages Tobi’s work as a ‘boss’. She helped Rei by using her clairvoyance to look through his mind in order to investigate his ‘swapped memories’, where Rei felt as if his memories before the first chapter (or memories before his new high school year started) were completely swapped. She tells him everything she uncovered from a traumatic memory Rei had, where he got involved in a car crash that killed both his parents. Along with revealing his friend, Yukito, was involved in the scene. In chapter 24, she makes another appearance talking through the phone with agents in their organization discussing their next move. She says that it’s okay for Tobi to attack and the rest is under his jurisdiction. In the next chapter after that, she took both Rei and Tobi to where Ryou is with her car. She set up a proper barrier, Tobi will be able to have a proper attempt on exterminating Ryou.
Abilities[]
Clairvoyance[]
Her clairvoyance ability allows her to see through people's memories by visiting their memory circuit. She is also capable to see memories that have already been forgotten. However, in certain occasions, she can be ejected out of someone's memory circuit.
Relationships[]
Tobi Otogiri[]
She works at the same organization as Tobi, proclaiming herself as his boss. They seem to be close to each other, seen as how the two talk to eachother in a more informal and casual way.
Rei Tsukumo[]
The two met after the "Heart Desolation" incident, where she was informed of Rei's "swapped memories". She later used her clairvoyance ability to look at Rei's memories.
Monika Asahi[]
The both of them seem to be in good terms, with Monika being Mai's subordinate. Monika addresses Mai politely with a '-san' honorific,[1] and takes orders from Mai.
